THE SOLUTION

Ultrasound can make a difference. Without access to the most basic medical technology, most medicine and treatment in rural and remote areas is based on symptoms, rather than early diagnosis of abnormalities or disease.  The ability to evaluate patients sonographically can lead to life-saving medical interventions, before unseen problems become fatal.

Determined to overcome the barriers to traditional ultrasound, Dr. Garra created a unique imaging paradigm, Volume Scan Imaging (VSI). VSI differs from traditional ultrasound in that the operators are trained to perform volumetric sweeps of organs based solely on external landmarks and ultrasound system presets.

Training is accomplished in days instead of years.
VSI operators require no knowledge of either ultrasound anatomy or diagnosis, therefore, training can be accomplished in three days, making it easy to deploy rapidly to rural clinics.

Ultrasound system operators are community members.
Since the system operators are local, they desire to remain in their community, creating stability and consistency in the implementation of the VSI protocols.

Affordable Ultrasound Systems
Technological advances in ultrasound have allowed for high performance, low-cost ultrasound systems, minimizing the previous cost barriers.

Studies can be interpreted anywhere in the world.
The volumetric sweeps are transmitted in highly compressed form to the cloud where highly qualified physicians can interpret and report using a structured reporting system.  A full report is sent to the referring physician or nearest hospital or rural clinic.
