More Patients, More Communities, Greater Impact: MIMAs’ 2025 Amazon Update

Over the past year, Medical Imaging Ministries of the Americas (MIMAs) has continued to strengthen its partnership with the Santa Clotilde health network and the Regional Hospital of Iquitos, expanding access to timely diagnostic imaging across remote communities in the Peruvian Amazon. Building on the foundation established in earlier phases of the project, 2025 marked a period of meaningful growth in training, patient care, and geographic reach.

Strengthening Local Capacity

MIMAs remains committed to empowering local healthcare providers through practical, focused education. Each of the 14 healthcare workers involved in the program has now received more than 24 hours of training in key ultrasound protocols, including obstetric, gynecological, right upper quadrant (RUQ), and kidney imaging. This hands-on training continues to enhance local diagnostic capacity and support sustainable healthcare delivery in isolated settings.

Delivering Essential Care

Access to ultrasound services has generated a tangible health impact for patients across the region. To date, 537 people have received examinations addressing a wide range of medical needs, from pregnancy monitoring to the detection of conditions such as gallstones. These services have supported earlier diagnosis, strengthened clinical decision-making, and enabled more timely referrals when specialized care is required.

Reaching More Communities

The initiative has also expanded geographically, now serving seven additional communities beyond Santa Clotilde and the Regional Hospital of Iquitos. By extending tele-ultrasound services and training efforts, MIMAs continues to bridge the gap between remote clinics and higher-level medical centers.

Looking Ahead

As MIMAs moves forward, the focus remains on scaling sustainable diagnostic services, strengthening local expertise, and expanding access to quality healthcare throughout the Amazon. With continued collaboration and support, the organization aims to reach even more communities and ensure that distance is no longer a barrier to timely medical diagnosis.
