Medical Imaging Ministries of Americas (MIMAs) is dedicated to improving healthcare in rural communities by delivering accessible, ultrasound-based diagnostics integrated with holistic care, addressing the needs of body, soul, and spirit. To carry out this mission, we rely on the vital support of healthcare professionals such as radiologists, sonographers, nurses, or others with experience in interpreting ultrasound images, to make life-changing differences. Whether you are in the medical profession or not, here’s how you can get involved, as described below.
Who Are We Looking For?
Medical Professionals:
We welcome healthcare professionals with:
- Experience in obstetric, pelvic, or right upper quadrant ultrasound
- A background in ultrasound image acquisition or interpretation
- A heart for service and a willingness to learn our mission-based approach
Volunteer Pathways
1. Quality Control Assessment (Remote)
Help ensure the accuracy and quality of diagnostic images. Volunteers in this role review image acquisition and interpretation. Full training is provided by MIMAs specialists so you can confidently contribute, even just a few cases at a time, depending on your availability.
2. Image Reading (Remote)
Although most images are currently read in Peru, at times the volume exceeds local capacity. You can support our teams by reading cases remotely. We will provide all necessary training and support to follow MIMAs’ methodology.
3. On-Site Missions in the Peruvian Amazon (In-Person)
Join us on one of our three annual trips, each approximately 10 days long. These missions travel to remote areas with limited access to healthcare, where your contributions have an especially meaningful impact. You’ll assist in training, image reading, and other critical tasks. Spanish speakers are especially encouraged to join, as translation is often needed.
Non-medical Professionals:
Not a clinician? You can still make a difference! We welcome volunteers with skills in:
- Grant writing
- Public relations
- Informatics
- Outcomes research
- Fundraising and donor engagement
- Logistics
- Web development
- Translation
How to Apply?
Send your resume and a short message about why you’d like to volunteer with MIMAs. If your profile matches our needs, you’ll be invited to speak with one of our founders.
